Jeff L. – About me / my experience

I’m a strong, classically trained, and experienced singer who excels at sight reading, harmonizing, and (no joke!) whistling. I am ready to perform hundreds of songs, across a wide variety of genres and eras. Here’s the full list.

If I had to encapsulate my main show in a single sentence: I sing “through the years, from crooning to Motown, and beyond.” I like to start with older music and work my way towards newer music. The eras and genres focused on are always based on the preferences of the audience currently in front of me.

I am no imitator! I do not sound like Frank Sinatra, Billy Joel, or Johnny Mathis – nor do I want to. However, I capture their spirit, and sing their songs really well. (Here’s a wonderful compliment from my wife: “I don’t like Frank Sinatra. I like how you do Frank Sinatra.”)

I was classically trained at West Chester (PA) University. In 2023, I sang for two hours every week, for seven months straight, at a local diner for their “Sundays with Sinatra.”

Years ago:

  • I was a member of a small chorus that backed up Barbara Streisand at Madison Square Garden, and Michael Crawford (Broadway’s original Phantom of the Opera), twice at Radio City Music Hall.
  • I was a member of a(nother) choir that backed up Andy Williams for a Christmas concert, for two evenings at Valley Forge Music Fair.
  • Two of my vocal performances were featured in the interactive e-book version of Debra Anastasia’s Poughkeepsie (each chapter was accompanied by a single song).
  • I sang for five shows a day, for a summer at Allentown PA’s Dorney Park.

The genres I specialize in:

  • Crooning, I am ready to perform many Frank Sinatra songs, supplemented by Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, Tony Bennett, Bobby Darin, Michael Bublé, and more.
  • Billy Joel: I’m currently ready to perform half of every song in Billy Joel’s repertoire (mostly from the first half of his career).
  • Many others: I am ready to sing many songs by popular artists such as James Taylor, The Beatles, Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Elton John, Neil Diamond, and Barry Manilow,
  • Broadway: I have around 30 show tunes ready to perform, including a handful by Frank Sinatra that originated from shows.
  • Sappy love songs from the 1940s through 1980s: Featuring the King of Sap, Barry Manilow, plus many others like Lionel Richie and Kenny Rogers.
